[Yami no Matsuei] (PG)

Author's Note: Written for [community profile] fic_promptly's Author's choice, author's choice, didn't feel like going outside on this cold winter's day.. Featuring Tsuzuki/Muraki in an AU where Tsuzuki is Muraki's companion.

Warmth, soft, caressing warmth and the blankets that enfolded Tsuzuki and Muraki that morning felt like sheets of gentle warmth. Tsuzuki stuck his head out from under the covers tentatively and shuddered.

"Brrr," he grumbled, pulling his head back under the covers.

"Hmm, I wish that I could stay to keep you warm, but I'm due in surgery this morning," Muraki said, slipping out from under the blankets.

"Mornings like this, I *want* you to stay," Tsuzuki muttered, shivering and reaching out to take Muraki's hand and press it.

His keeper clasped his hand in both of his before raising it to his lips to kiss it. "Perhaps this will keep you warm while I'm away?" he asked.

"Maybe," Tsuzuki said, shivering and creeping back under the covers. The cool air actually made Muraki's touch feel warm.

"Don't stay under there for too long, moving around helps you to stay warm by getting your circulation flowing," Muraki replied, letting go of Tsuzuki's hand and withdrawing to his dressing room.

Later that morning, the maid brought in a tray of breakfast, setting it on the bedside table. "Tsuzuki-sama, are you getting up today?" she asked, peeking through a gap in the covers.

Tsuzuki lifted the covers a bit to peer out at her better. "Umf, thanks, Yumi-chan, but I'm staying under here," he said. "It's too cold out there today."

"Oh, yes, it's very cold today. It's warmer in the kitchen, if you'd like to go down there," she said. "We'd be happy to have you down there, the cook misses you."

"I'd like to, but not today, sorry," Tsuzuki said, sitting up, pulling the blankets up around his shoulders.

"Do you want me to bring anything for you? Maybe those books from the library table, the ones you bought the other day?" she asked.

"Oh, yeah: it's a perfect day for curling up with a book, maybe catching some soaps," Tsuzuki said, pulling the tray closer.

"It's a good time for that, when Muraki-sensei is out for the day," Yumi replied, going out.

Late that evening, when the sun had set, Muraki returned, finding Tsuzuki where he had left his pet early that morning, curled up in bed, a book near his hand. "Tsuzuki-chan," he crooned, tsking as he sat down on the edge of the bed. "Have you stayed there all day, sleeping?"

"Hm? Oh, Muraki... no, well, not really..." Tsuzuki fumbled. "It just felt so cold, I didn't feel like getting out of bed."

"And so you stayed under the covers the whole time?" Muraki asked, shaking his head. "I told you that you'd need to get up and move about to get your blood flowing quicker."

"Hmmm, just as well that I've tomorrow evening free: I can think of ways to make getting out well worth your effort," Muraki said.

Tsuzuki lifted his head. "Oooh, a trip into the city?"

"I had that in mind, perhaps a movie?"

"Oooh, I could get up for that -- as long as you let me pick it this time. And as long as it warms up."

"Hmm, I'm afraid this cold snap is likely to last a few days."

"Ahh, geeze, that's no fun," Tsuzuki grumbled, pulling back under the covers.

Muraki reached in to find him. "I have ways of warming you up..."
